Guiding Stars is an objective, evidence-based, store-wide nutrition navigation program. The system rates foods using an algorithm that evaluates a variety of nutrients found on the Nutrition Facts label and ingredient list. Foods receive a score based on the assignment of credits for vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and whole grains, and debits for saturated fats, trans fats, added sugar, and added sodium. Products are then assigned stars:

One Star = good nutritional value

Two Stars = better nutritional value

Three Stars = best nutritional value
